Papers by board

Each board sets its own paper, in its own format and its own medium. Pick yours — a CBSE paper won't prepare you for a UP Board exam.

How to actually use them

Reading a past paper is not the same as attempting one

Most students open a previous year paper, glance at the questions, decide they look manageable, and close it. That teaches you almost nothing. Do this instead.

  1. 1

    Sit it properly

Full three hours, one sitting, phone in another room. The clock is half of what the paper tests.

  2. 2

    Mark it honestly

Use the official marking scheme, not your own judgement. Give yourself nothing for "I knew that".

  3. 3

    Sort your mistakes

Split them into didn't know, knew but rushed, and misread. Each needs a different fix.

  4. 4

    Go back to the chapter

Revise only the topics you actually lost marks on, then attempt the next year's paper.

Paper pattern

Where the marks actually sit

Past papers tell you the pattern; the blueprint tells you the weightage. Example below is CBSE Class 10 Mathematics — every board and subject has its own, published with each paper.

UnitMarksShare of paper
Number Systems 06
Algebra 20
Coordinate Geometry 06
Geometry 15
Trigonometry 12
Mensuration 10
Statistics & Probability 11

Total 80 marks, plus 20 marks internal assessment. Boards revise weightage between sessions — always check your school's circular and the current curriculum document.

Where these come from

Real papers, not reconstructions

A "previous year paper" that was actually written by a coaching centre is worse than useless — it teaches you the wrong pattern. Every paper in this archive is the paper the board actually set.

  • Sourced from the board's own published papers
  • All sets and codes where the board issued more than one
  • Original medium preserved — Hindi papers stay in Hindi
  • Solutions written by teachers, marked as ours, not the board's

Two things worth knowing

Syllabus changes. A 2020 paper was set on the 2020 syllabus. Chapters get added and removed, so an older paper may contain questions no longer on your course — and may miss topics that now are. Each paper states its session; use recent years first.

Solutions are ours, not the board's. Where a board publishes an official marking scheme we host it and say so. Where it doesn't, our solutions are written by teachers and clearly labelled as such. If you find an error, report it on the paper page and we correct it.

Questions

Previous year papers, answered

Where can I download previous year question papers?

Use the finder at the top of this page: choose your board, class, subject and year. Every paper can be read online or downloaded as a PDF, free and without an account.

Which boards and years are covered?

CBSE and Indian state boards — UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP, Haryana, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand — for Class 9 to 12, going back roughly ten years. Coverage is deepest for recent years, which are also the most useful.

Are solutions included?

For most papers, yes, with step-by-step working rather than only final answers. Where a board publishes its own official marking scheme we host that too and label it clearly. Papers still awaiting solutions say so on the card.

How many past papers should I attempt?

Five to seven recent years per subject, attempted properly under time, is worth far more than twenty skimmed. Prioritise the last three years — they reflect the current syllabus and question pattern most closely.

Do old papers still match the current syllabus?

Not always. Boards add and remove chapters between sessions, so a paper from several years ago may include topics no longer prescribed. Each paper states the session it belongs to. Start with the most recent years and treat older ones as extra practice.

Are the papers available in Hindi?

Yes. Papers are kept in the medium the board issued them in, so UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan Hindi-medium papers appear in Hindi, and bilingual papers keep both versions.

Is there a fee to download?

No. Every paper and its solutions are free to view and download for personal study. Downloads are not for resale or redistribution.

A paper I need is missing. Can you add it?

Tell us the board, class, subject and year through the contact form, on +91 94585 49015, or at [email protected]. Requested papers are prioritised, particularly in the months before board exams.
